This July I went on a little holiday to Glasgow, the Isle of Bute and Newcastle, had a great time and decided to make a zine about it. Amongst other things, the zine features stuff on getting the sleeper train from London to Glasgow, an ode to all the amazing carbs I ate, what happens when a bunch of radical librarians end up in a karaoke bar, what I think Metro Ken from the Newcastle Metro looks like, why you should visit Bute, and the recipe for a Buckfast negroni.
At our staff conference this year I ran a workshop showing a group of people how to make mini zines. This is what I came up with in 50 minutes: Victorian ladies being threatening.
Brighton, the city I live in, is not great at dealing with it’s refuse situation. I found myself taking lots of pictures of bins, adding the hashtag #BrightonScumCity and uploading them to Twitter. This a zine made of those photos. You can buy a copy of the zine here.
A couple of weeks ago, I visited my parents. My old bedroom there has become a bit of a storage space for things the rest of my family no longer want. Amongst the detritus I found a copy of Men’s Health magazine (I think it belonged to my sister’s boyfriend…). Content wise, it was pretty odious, and bored, with nothing better to do I chopped it up and made this collage mini-zine in a hour or two. Due to the no budget nature of production, the folding, cutting and stapling are all wonky as fuck but if you’d like a free copy, give me a shout via twitter or in the comments here or whatever.
